Bob Cook holds hunter Steve Kinzer's antlers from 2003 on the second firearms hunt.  They scored 167 net.

Our 2003 Kansas season was a tremendous success. We took some very good bucks in both archery and modern firearms season. As an example, Russell Richard of Florida took a great non-typical. His comment was; “I must have had 12 to 14 bucks around me that morning, it was unbelievable!”. Tye Cobb of North Carolina took a tremendous deer the same evening that Randy Wood also of North Carolina took a 10 pt. antlered doe! All of our hunters had opportunities to take quality animals, and many of them had close calls with “once in a lifetime” monster whitetails. We saw so many great bucks that will only be larger this upcoming season that we can’t wait for this Fall to arrive.

In 2003 we added approximately 5,000 acres to our land holdings in Unit 12 of Southeast Kansas bringing our total hunting acreage to approx. 25,000 acres or 40 square miles! To those of you that have not visited this part of the nations heartland believe you me this is nothing like the flat, treeless, prairie and farmland you might have envisioned Kansas to be. The terrain is a perfect mixture of timber, prairie, canyons, agriculture fields and pastures along with great security cover like plum thickets and protective cedar glades. Into this mix of prime whitetail deer habitat add the largest river in this part of Kansas, the Caney River, running right through the middle of our hunting property as well as lakes and stock ponds as large as 80 acres. Southeast Kansas has perfect conditions for growing trophy whitetails. Great genetics, large ranches that allow for managing a whitetails entire range, abundant quality food and habitat, mild climate without winterkill, a short gun season with a very limited buck harvest, and a wildlife department that from the beginning has followed a trophy deer management program.

We can provide transferable landowner deer tags for you. This is extremely important as the odds of drawing a non-resident deer tag for an antlered deer in the application process open to the public is less than 100%. The “window” to apply for a deer tag begins the first day of May and ends on May 31st. Application can be made to the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Department. All hunters wishing to hunt with us must apply during this time period. Don’t let this window of opportunity close without taking advantage of it!

We provide clean and comfortable lodging conveniently located on the ranch where we will be hunting. This is an asset as it eliminates lost hunting time traveling to and from the hunting area. The hunting area is scouted ahead of the hunts, stands are placed in prime locations and feeders are up and running on some areas of the ranch well in advance of the hunts for those hunters wishing to hunt near a feeder. The hunters are transported from the camp to their stands and picked up from their stands and brought back to camp.

Our hunts are five full days of hunting. We recommend our hunters arrive mid-day on the day prior to the first day of their hunt. This gives us a chance to show the hunter around the ranch and familiarize him with his stand for the following mornings hunt. After getting settled into the camp house the hunter can then shoot their bow or gun if they wish. There is a very small town near camp with a fair selection of supplies. Normally we like to end the hunts on Sunday, this is most important for the hunters that are flying in and searching for the best price on airplane tickets. Most carriers require a stay over a Saturday for the most inexpensive fares. Wichita, Ks. as well as Tulsa, Ok. are both good choices if choosing to travel by air. Airfare cost is very reasonable with airlines such as Air Tran, Delta, and others providing service to Wichita.

This does not include the price of a landowner tag if unsuccessful in the drawing. Although the wildlife department has not finalized the firearms season dates at this writing, gun season will begin approx. Dec. 3rd. We take a very limited number of hunters each year. Our hunting guides are licensed by the state of Kansas, {license # 638}, and we are insured.

To book a hunt 50% of the hunt price is required as a deposit. The balance of the hunt price will be due 60 days prior to your hunt date. No refunds of deposits will be made, however if you cancel prior to 60 days in advance of your hunt you may use your deposit toward a future hunt.
